Protect Water and Nature Initiative in Massachusetts
Tracker entry and action guide

Summary
An effort to secure big-time conservation funding in Massachusetts via the legislature or ballot box.
What's Happening
Coalition Effort — A coalition of conservation, and community organizations are trying to create a dedicated, annual revenue stream to conserve water, land, urban greenspace, outdoor recreation access, and wildlife in Massachusetts.
2 Pathways — The are pursuing this through 2 pathways:
- The are urging the State Legislature to pass the Nature for All bill (H.901 / S.2571). It would set aside revenue from the existing state sales tax on sporting goods to raise $100 million every year for protecting and conserving water and nature—without raising taxes.
- At the same time, they are also pursuing the Protect Water and Nature Initiative as a question on the November 2026 ballot. If lawmakers don’t act, they will bring this issue directly to voters through a 2026 ballot question.
Why It Matters
Huge Funding Source — If successful this effort will generate $100 million in annual funding for nature conservation in Massachusetts.
